Objectification of diagnosis

Limitations in Mental Illness Diagnosis
Mental disorders are diagnosed phenomenologically, and the current diagnostic criteria follow the guidelines presented by the American Psychiatric Association. As a result, current diagnosis relies on clinical symptoms and signs, and predictions are made based on experience. Consequently, there is no established gold standard for molecular diagnosis. Due to these reasons, the importance of biomarker research has been emphasized recently.
